When we first met we were both walkers, Pete had walked in the Alps whilst my background was the Mountains of the UK. Pete tried Scotland but the weather was unpredictable, the navigation was challenging, it was a long way to drive and took too long to get there; and I always wondered how he coped on his own in the Alps. With a wry smile he planned a trip to the Dolomites. Then I understood, the paths are all painted with red and white markers, well signposted and the mountains were scattered with well maintained mountain huts to stay in. So we became hut to huters, staying up high for as long as possible. We travelled with two sets of gear, one for walking and the other for culture. A bag was left in left luggage, and exchanged as we hit the towns and cities. I was then converted to Alpine walking. In the winter months we would snow shoe in many of the same places. As Pips limbs began to degrade though too much high impact sport, cycling became the main focus. In all of our self led holidays Pete did the travel and accommodation. Pip did the routing and navigation. It was a division of labour which worked really well.
